I Hate to Cook!

I need major help here! I am sitting here in utter frustration from dinner. I know many of you are in a similar situation as me and I'm hoping you will have some good advice for me.
Here is my problem...If I were to cook what I want for dinner, John and the kids won't eat it. If I cook what John wants, the kids and I won't eat it. If I cook what the kids want, John and I won't eat it.
So I feel like I am cooking 3 meals a night...mac and cheese for the kids, meat and potatoes for John and soup for myself. This is a pain for me to cook and clean up. If I cook only one thing, only one person is happy. If I cook a main thing, I still usually have something else for myself because of my diet. Then the kids are confused, "Why do we have to eat this crap and Mom doesn't?" (they don't really say "crap" but that's usually what it is).
I can't please everyone and it's so frustrating to me! What do I do? Who has good recipes that all their family likes? I also have a hard time finding things that are easy for my kids to eat. I usually find that half of it ends up on the ground (i.e. spaghetti) because they just can't get it from the plate to their mouth. Then I end up spoon feeding my 3 and 5 year olds!
Dinner time always makes me ANGRY!!! HELP ME!!!

I'm sorry, this must be so frustrating. Have you tried freezing a dinner you made for the kids in small containers? (ie. creamy pasta w/ham chunks & peas or stuffing with turkey). Then defrost is all you have to do at the next dinner time. Jennie-o makes a "turkey hotdog" for $1.18 a pack at Wal-Mart. My kids love them. I don't really have any miracle recipes, my kids love meat! So I mostly make things like grilled chicken, BLT's, stir fry. If I come across a good recipe I'll send it to you. Good luck.

I have no answers - but I HEAR YOU! When I had all six kids at home I used to have FHE where everyone would write down 5 dinner ideas they would be thrilled to eat - the result: the only thing on all seven lists was "order pizza." (and even then everyone wanted a different brand/kind of pizza!) My husband and I don't like the same foods, at least now with only one child at home, we often each make our own dinner. SORRY!

Okay, I will TRY to help, but everyone's tastes are so different, it's hard. Most everything I make for dinner has chicken in it (enchiladas, pasta, salad, soup, etc.) My kids will always eat chicken (or ham), so if they won't eat the enchiladas, I pull the chicken out or leave some aside after I have cooked it and before I put them together. They pick whatever fruit they want on the side and we mostly have corn because that is the only veggie I can get them to eat - sound familiar?) I make whatever other veggie sounds good to me too since I really only eat the sides (maybe a little main depending on what), so I always have a couple side dishes. So, basically my kids have chicken, apples or grapes and corn just about every night. Better than hot dogs or sandwiches I guess? I am far from perfect, but thought I would tell you what works for me. Good luck, let us know! Oh, and we do potatoes a couple times a week too.

I'm sorry it took me forever to get back to you. I did tell Malinda about your message. She was so excited to hear about it! I don't know Malinda's email, but Dain's is dainbrinkerhoff@yahoo.com and M's phone number is 214-714-2540. I'm sure she would LOVE to hear from you. They just had their second baby on Friday- Aislyn Clove! Just let me know if that info works for you! Good luck. And cute blog!

Ah I'm sorry!
If my husband had his way he would have a hamburger and fries at every meal but I've found that he will let me use chicken in anything as long as he gets to use the George Foreman grill. I also sneak veggies into almost everything that I cook and he doesn't mind! We eat a lot of stir-fry and fajitas and things that you can choose what you want added because he wants full fat things and I go for the lowfat and fat free options so this way we can both be happy. This is probably no help at all but GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for all your help! I like the idea of chicken every night. My kids like meat too Cyn! And something they can put together with their favs is great. I also liketaking parts of the meal out- precooking- to save what the kids will eat. That is like cooking more than one meal, but not!
I knew you'd come through for me! Thanks ladies:)

Hey...sorry I didn't call you while I was in Utah..I really never had a free moment...I was pushed from house to house to visit. About your dilemma..I feel your pain with the dinner thing, because Noah doesn't eat anything...well, somethings, if it includes cheese(i.e. mac & cheese & cheese) oh and waffles. Aurora would be fine with soup (i.e. Top Raman)and Noah would just eat waffles if I let him. I have given up on the whole three dinners thing at our house. I make a dinner, preferably that most will eat,but I do try to throw things in that they might not necessarily like or have never tasted, like fish. Then if they don't want it, they must take a no-thank-you bite. If that's all they want to eat is the no-thank-you bite, then that's all they get. However, if I'm making enchiladas I will make one with just cheese for Noah. Now this is a little different for Cory. Cory will pretty much eat anything I make, however, if he doesn't like it, he will make himself something else when the kids are in bed. Hope that helps a little. Good luck.
