Diary of a Wimpy Kid

I got Austin these books for his birthday because all the little boys in Primary talk about them. Since we are always trying to encourage reading, I thought they'd be a great gift.I was completely mortified when I started flipping through them. Lines like "My dad's an idiot," "I hate Grandma," "I want to sit by hot girls because my friends are morons." Just not my kind of humor. So I took them all away with the promise that I'd buy him new books. We already do Captain Underpants (I can do potty humor, just not mean humor) and Magic Treehouse, but I'm looking for other suggestions of books that are appropriate for a 7 *sigh* year old boy.

My Abi likes the diary of a wimpy kid as well, and I never realized what was in them either until after I had bought her some. She LOVES to read, and so does Chloe by the way. They love the magic tree house ones, and I think most the other series they have are maybe more for girls, like June B. Jones and Rainbow Fairy ones LOL...
The Frog and Toad books are fun, I never realized that most books are geared to girls... i LOVE the magic tree house books and there are SO many of them, that I think you can never go wrong with those. I learned a few weeks ago that there are usually 4 books in the magic tree house series that tell a story as well as the individual books, so that is fun as well. Anyways, not sure let me know what you find.

We have every single Magic Tree House book and P. loves them. He's started reading the first few on his own now, which is great! Try the A-Z mysteries by There as as many books as letters in the alphabet. All of them are about three kids who solve crimes and mysteries. You can skip around too (not go in alphabetical order) and you don't miss anything. Also, P. likes the Junie B. Jones books. They're about a girl but she's kind of a trouble maker so they even keep the boys entertained. There's another series called Geronimo Stilton. I can't remember who wrote them but I've heard good things (I do know they are originally from Italy) so I ordered some for Christmas. Hope that helps! You should also check out a book called the Read Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease. It's a fantastic book and the whole second half is a huge list of great books to read aloud to your kids separated by age so you'll have great suggestions for all your kids. I could go on forever! Email me if you want more ideas. :)

I agree with you on the Wimpy Kid books. We don't have any. I feel the same way about Junie B. They have a rude in an obnoxious, disrespectful way. Sorry fans, I know they are really popular. Anyways, Magic treehouse are great. They have stood the test of time. They are my favorite for that age group, even the girls read them. I would recommend the Jigsaw Jones series. They are detective books that Ryan really enjoyed. There are a ton of them.

Ryan wanted me to add that he really like the Geronimo Stilton books. Geronimo is a little mouse. They use colors in random words and in the some pictures that make it fun.
