Day 6 Thursday June 5, 2008

Today was absolute perfection. We have quickly adjusted to Tico time. It is dark by 6:30 here, so most stores and such are closed by 7 and the city sleeps by 9. Which means we are up and at ‘em at 6:30. Early to bed, early to rise. It’s actually really great.
So our perfect day started at 6:30. By 7:30 we were eating breakfast by the pool and then off to the beach.
We were told that Playa Conchal is the most beautiful beach in the area. The only problem is that it’s not easily accessible because when the tide comes in at about noon, it blocks the way in and out. We were there early enough to drive all the way there, realized it wasn’t all that great and get out before the tide trapped us.
We headed to Playa Flamingo. It was wonderful! Bailey fell asleep in the car on the way there, so we parked under a tree right on the beach and let her get a great nap. Here the sand is white and the water is clear and warm!
Austin is non-stop playing in the sand, with small breaks to cool off in the water. Adeline is fearless in the water. She will let the waves knock her over and throw her around and always comes up smiling. John got in some great body surfing and I got the much desired sun on my legs!
About the same time Bailey woke up, the tide was kicking us off the beach, so we came back to the pool to get the excess sand off our bodies (an old Claybaugh trick).
We hit up a local restaurant for dinner. It was right on the beach and the sun was setting. The food was great. John and I both ordered some special pineapple drink that was so good, we each ordered one more. We let Austin get a chocolate shake and we ordered an appetizer and dessert (something we almost never do). We really treated ourselves at this sunset dinner, but had to laugh when the bill came and it was less than $30!
By the time we got back to the hotel, the kids were totally worn out, so they went straight to bed. John and I read by the pool for a little bit before turning in.

It was a glorious day for all!
